Matthew Smith leading the 1500m |
I have been coaching Matthew since cross country season and he has started to show great potential recently.
At Cross Country trainings Matthew couldn't even finish the road runs and do the abdominal training properly but that never stop him from attending trainings week in and week out. At meetings(races) he never placed in the top half but when it got to athletics he showed that he has something to offer and I noticed that he finishes trainings and can do the abdominals training properly, Matthew is a hard worker and it showed when it came to the last race of the season, he did something I thought I would never seen from him and he lead the 1500 meter race from the beginning and never showed any signs of slowing down.
Matthew is in grade 8 and is one of the tallest boys in his grade which is a good thing for him because he will have longer strides which gives him a competitive advantage against the other boys he competes with, he's young which means he has many years to develop his potential into something great.
When Matthew won the race it made me so proud because it shows me that I am doing a great job as a coach and that anyone can achieve what they put there minds to.
