I have been coaching cross country at Rand Park High School for two years now and things just seem to be getting better by each year.
Cross country takes part in the second term at Rand Park High School (RPHS) and I was privileged enough to be able to teach and coach them on everything I know about the sport.
If you were to ask the athletes that were at the school before I started to coach there they will say the atmosphere and the trainings are different from their time at the school.
I have changed the way Mrs Kupper and Mr Kruger use to coach. I did not change it up completely I just changed somethings and added new things to the way they would do it and add more tactical training so that they are more physically and mentally prepared for races.
At the trainings I always incorporated the FUN aspect but with discipline as well, for example I would make teams, have friendly competition and when in teams I would make the " losing" team do a punishment but sometimes I would make the 'winning' team choose the punishment for the "losing" team, this forces them to work as a team and work harder than they have before because no one ever wants to do punishment.
This season was way better than last season because this season the junior girls team placed third and gave RPHS there first podium finish in a very long time. I had the same amount of athletes(6) make finals this year as last season but they were different from last season because they where only made up of juniors and new comers (Grade 8 and 9) which is a very good think for RPHS.
